The form of the salmon.*** Amartuq is an old god, originally belonging to the orc inhabitants of the land of Caledon before widespread immigration divided the coast. Legend tells that Amartuq was once an Orc King, himself a native to the land. A good, wise, and benevolent king, Amartuq became synonymous with the steadfastness of a salmon swimming upstream. Though not a popular or mainstream god by any means, he is considered the protector of the native Orc population. There are many ancient sites and ruins dedicated to Amartuq, many of them involving aquatic symbolism. In popular society, Amartuq is still regarded as a siphon of prophetic wisdom and history, and his temples are spread throughout the Tovangar Coast. > [!dm] > ### Institutions > There are several denominations of followers of Amartuq. One branch has a papal system, led by a divinely elected ruler, and another branch is independently served by its congregants and local teachers. This smaller denomination, dedicated to the equality of all commonfolk, has been attempting to spread its way into popular society.
