***God of vigilance, guardians and protectors. The form of the owl.***
For many generations, the people of Tovangar viewed Akicita (ah-key-chee-tah) as cold and distant, ever-watchful and impartial in his role. A very old deity, Akicita is the eternal sentry, known to many as "The Unsleeping," and "The Vigilant One." Akicita is widely admired for his ethic, diligence, and responsibility. Because of the weight of his responsibility his followers are rarer than other deities. Akicita is cited as a reassurance to fearful children, as he is known to care for the weak. During the Great Schism, Akicita caused controversy by refusing to stand against [[The World/Deities/The Anaye|The Anaye]] and admit [[The World/Deities/Yona|Yona]] into the ranks of the gods until The Anaye had been vanquished. This is still held against him by some followers of Yona.

> ### Institutions
> Prior to the Great Schism, Vigils (Paladins and Clerics dedicated to Akicita) were long respected and revered for their dedication and purpose, especially in the frontiers of NaHo, where watchfulness was a highly valued virtue. Throughout the divine crisis, and beyond, they unfailingly pledged to come to the defense of those who called for it. Vigils are widely known to be nomadic travelers, arriving in small towns or villages at the call of their God to defend the weak and oppressed. His institutions and temples are present in most major cities, but to find worshipers of Akicita in the wild world is fairly uncommon.
